Radiation Coordinator on Rig, Sealed Sources and LRA
Objective
The course aims to:
-Provide increased knowledge about radiation and radioactivity
-Provide a realistic picture of health hazards associated with ionizing radiation
-Prevent anxiety and uncertainty associated with work involving radioactivity
-Contribute so that radiation and radioactivity are treated with respect, and lead to structured working practices so that the exposure of individuals and the number exposed is as small as reasonably achievable (ALARA)
Target group
The course is specifically tailored for those responsible for offshore radiation, but will also be suitable for industrial use of radiation in general.
Course content
The course will focus on radiation protection matters regarding:
-Handling of radioactive deposits (LRA)
-Oil Well Logging
-Industrial radiography
-Source Control Installations
-Other activities such as pig-tracking and pip tags
The course will examine the concepts of radioactivity and radiation, the doses of radiation one is exposed to when exposed to ionizing radiation, and the health effects of radiation can cause. The course ends with a test (multiple choice, open book). 80% required.
